This was a Microsoft report conclusion after discussion of 45 experts in computer science, psychology and sociology. In 2020 terms like "interface" or "user" will be out-of-date because computers will get considerably closer to humans. It will bring advantages for a man as well as certain danger.People might lose control over computers in the near future!
The Microsoft report brought by BBC forecasts fair changes in interaction between the computer and user.
In 2020, computers will observe human behaviour much more than they do today. Gradually, they will be able to anticipate what we want from them. It will need new rules for our communication with these machines.
THERE WILL BE CLEVER DEVICES
Keyboard, mouse and screen will be more frequently replaced with more intuitive forms of interaction including digitizers, systems for speech recognition and touch surfaces. The border between computers and men will be slowly disappearing during the following decade, as these systems will become parts of various objects, clothes, or - in case of medicine diagnostic facilities - even part of our bodies.
Digital technologies will affect our lives in 2020 much more, from mobile telephoning to camera systems. This in combination with ever-present Internet will affect our privacy and its protection will become the main problem of the interaction between men and machines.
Our digital trace - sharing information about our activities and thoughts gained through digital photography, podcasting, blogging and video - will get bigger and its growth will become crucial issue in discussion how much information about ourselves we should keep.
LOSING CONTROL
The ever-present net will provide bigger stream of information straight towards us and at the same time it will spread confidential information about us into the environment. The Microsoft report refers to this era as the period of hyper-connectivity and forecasts that it will lead to growth of "human addiction to technical devices." This growing confidential relation between people and computers will be double-edged.
The report compares the situation after spreading calculators (which were then widely blamed for the fact that people have had lesser ability to count on their own) with what might happen when computers become more intelligent and overtake new duties. "Without proper supervision we cannot exclude that we will lose control over ourselves and the world that surrounds us," the report warns.
It is important for language to invent names for new ways of interaction between men and computers as well as it is necessary to change the overall approach of the computer science education. "We cannot teach students only how computers and applications work, we must also mention their wider impact on society," concludes the Microsoft report.

Theory In my view, In 2020 there won't be any computers being able to anticipate our moves and thoughts in advance. If we refer to previous 10 years what actually happened new ? Well, there was a new operating system called Windows 98 and gradually every two years is performance of the whole computer muptiplied by 2. But what's the real asset? Is our work faster or easier ? I don't think so. Just these application are more demanding on performance of our computers and nothing else. The layout is more user friendly and there are a lot of absolutely useless features which anyway no one needed 10 years ago. The whole thing is just about the business and selling new operating systems and hardware because, if user wants to be cool he needs of course the newest and finest operating system and appropriate hardware. I really don't believe in these Microsoft's and any other theories trying to anticipate the future.
Re: Theory Jenom dotaz, co znamena veta But what's the real asset? - Co je skutecny prinos? nebo neco jineho? Dekuji

Hi all! I am pretty sure a lot of thinks happened last 10 years. Look around you, Ten years ago I couldn't imagine to have a business trip abroad and use Skype to talk to my family. Even for free and see them via web camera. Or be connected to interned in the bus. Or send e-mail via cell phone. Oh yes, a lot of thinks happened. Pavla

hello all, it is very interesting, but o think that it is posible....
computers and technology go forward very fast, and it is only question of time when it comes.

Well , that is interesting topic . In my opinion it is quite possible , because there isnt any mysterious soul or something like that . Everything is physic and chemistry , it means that everything is explainable and completelly replaceable . Maybe it is the best destiny to replace ourselfs .I mean it is better than if we would left nothing after us .
For example scientist has already developed microchip that can affect our mood . And they claim it will be necessary to have this device in this more and more stressing and hectic world . Cool , isnt it ?
Future I agree, a lot has happened in the field of technology in the past ten years. I believe a lot will happen over the next ten. If you go back to 1979 and look at the growth of technology from then until now it has grown exponentially every 10 years.
Some think that we may have reached our limit in this area I disagree, 10 years ago people thought a pentium 75 with 1 gig of RAM was top of the line and how could we possibly get any faster? Well we have by 100+ fold.
Software and hardware both are getting more intellegent and interactive. There are already advances out there that will reach the consumer market soon that are more advanced than what's out now and even more on the drawing board for the future.
My wife is Czech, we also use Skype to video chat with her parents from the US. Even as recent as 5 years ago this would not have been possible at a reasonable cost let alone for free.
No matter how much you may dislike Microsoft they will continue to advance the way we interact with the rest of the world through computers. There are other great options though, such as Linux. They have a great support system through users and programmers that write GNU/GPL programs.
So, like it or not technology will advance and yes, most likely our lives will become somewhat less private as a trade off. I do believe that it will also make our lives better in other ways. The biggest issue I feel is not to let computers do all of your thinking. Keep exercising your body and mind and enjoy the convienences that technology has to offer.
And as for pirvacy, most people are their own worst enemy in this area. Just look at all of the people who give up so much about themselves in blogs, myspace, facebook, and youtube, etc... then turn around and complain that the Government wants to take their privacy away. Always be diligent about what you write about online. Know that it will be available to everyone for years to come.
I think that the future will be really cool and I for one look forward to what's to come.
