Esej - American history

What does British history means to me ?

If somebody asked me a few weeks ago : “What do you think about the American history?” I would say that “I need some time for thinking”. I think that it is a hard question because in history of America happened a lot and I always try to be as objective as possible, so it would take me exactly a couple of minutes to thinking of. Otherwise, on History lessons our teachers always remind us that we should try to understand the people and their behaviour at the particular period which we study without our own reference.

When we talk about the history of America, a lot of people probably would say: " Oh, history of America! I knew everything about it! Christopher Columbus discovered America in 1492. He met some people there – the native Americans – Indians. And after the discovery of America, people in Europe started to plant some crops which they hadn´t known before. For example, potatoes, corn, beans. " And it would be probably everything which they could said about it. I have to admit that I was like these people a few weeks ago.

On lessons of History of the Usa I found out a lot of new interesting informations and details, which I hadn´t known before. For example that the Vikings had discovered America before Kolumbus, because the archaelogists found the foundations of huts which were built in Viking style. It was found in 1960s in Newfoundland and New England. Or the story about the Indian princess Pocahontas was very interesting. When I was a child, I saw the Disney fairy tale about this warrior princess who saved life John Smith and then married to him. But in fact, she married tobacco planter John Rolfe and she coverted to Christianity.

Poprosila by som Vás, drahí priatelia, o komenty, čo sa týka gramatických alebo štylistických chýb v tejto mojej eseji, budem vďačná za každý koment alebo radu :) Ďakujem veľmi pekne :)

  1. What does AMERICAN history mean to me? (po použití pomocného slovesa v otázce a záporu je hlavni slovesi v základním tvaru) !!
  2. If somebody HAD asked me…, I would say “…” (bez “that”)
  3. I think it's a DIFFICULT question (za sebe bych vynechal “that” a použil stažený tvar slovesa BE).
  4. …because a lot of things happened in American history and it would take me some time time to think about it properly, because I always try to be as objective as I can (takto to podle mě zní lépe).
  5. …teachers always reminded… (minulý čas, proto koncovka -ed)
  6. …after America was discovered…
  7. …I was just like these people (s tím “just” to podle mě zní lépe).
  8. On lessons of American History (ve Vaší verzi je až moc vazeb s předložkou OF).
  9. …interesting INFORMATION (jedná se o nepočitatelné podst.jm., nelze tedy použít tvar se -s).
  10. …details which I… (napsal bych bez čárky).
  11. …archeologists found the rests of… (“found the foundations” nezní moc dobře).
  12. The story of xxx was very interesting, too / was also very interesting
  13. …who saved John Smith's life and then married him (bez “to”).

Dakujem veľmi pekne :-D ;-)

  • which were built in Viking style – pro lepší orientaci, kdy se co stalo, doporučuji předminulý čas (which had been built)
  • It was found in 1960s – před tím ale mluvíte o “foundations”, čili by mělo být mn.č. → they were found in 1960s
  • she married a tobacco planter, John Rolfe, and she converted to Christianity.
  • pozor na Columbus (jednou to tam máte dobře, jednou s K) a ve větě the Vikings had discovered America before Kolumbus bych předminulý nedávala, jen minulý (neporovnáváte dva časy a navíc tu “souslednost” zajišťuje předložka BEFORE)
