What does British history means to me ?
If somebody asked me a few weeks ago : “What do you think about the American history?” I would say that “I need some time for thinking”. I think that it is a hard question because in history of America happened a lot and I always try to be as objective as possible, so it would take me exactly a couple of minutes to thinking of. Otherwise, on History lessons our teachers always remind us that we should try to understand the people and their behaviour at the particular period which we study without our own reference.
When we talk about the history of America, a lot of people probably would say: " Oh, history of America! I knew everything about it! Christopher Columbus discovered America in 1492. He met some people there – the native Americans – Indians. And after the discovery of America, people in Europe started to plant some crops which they hadn´t known before. For example, potatoes, corn, beans. " And it would be probably everything which they could said about it. I have to admit that I was like these people a few weeks ago.
On lessons of History of the Usa I found out a lot of new interesting informations and details, which I hadn´t known before. For example that the Vikings had discovered America before Kolumbus, because the archaelogists found the foundations of huts which were built in Viking style. It was found in 1960s in Newfoundland and New England. Or the story about the Indian princess Pocahontas was very interesting. When I was a child, I saw the Disney fairy tale about this warrior princess who saved life John Smith and then married to him. But in fact, she married tobacco planter John Rolfe and she coverted to Christianity.
