Hi Daniel, it means train spotters; people who are railway enthusiasts and like to collect the numbers and names of locomotives. They usually note the number down in special books and obviously photograph them. During my father's childhood it was a usual hobby of most young lads. By the time I was doing it in the late 80s it was and still is considered a bit ‘sad’. I guess that's due to the demise of steam locomotives and the fact that the modern day train spotter sterotypically tends to be a lonely weirdo.

Oh and I forgot to say that you can use ‘anorak’ to describe someone who is a bit of a bore because they are (or thinks they are) very knowledgable on a subject (usually a not so popular subject like train spotting) and love talking about it.
