Z úkolu od mého studenta:

In the garden we grow fruit trees and a lot of shrubs. Of course there musn´t miss a few vegetable beds.

Za mě ta druhá věta asi dobře nebude, ale sám moc nevím, jestli se při vyjadřování tohohle “nesmí chybět” používá MISS, nebo něco úplně jiného.

Za mě toto:
Já bych to asi opsala úplně jinak, třeba: And of course – there is no garden without a few vegetable beds.
nebo: Of course, a few vegetable beds is a must-have 

Ta věta toho studenta zní opravdu blbě, je tam navíc použito dle mého špatně to “there”...... do té věty jak je myšlená to nepatří… Ale nějaký doslovný překlad té české věty mě nenapadl.....

Ano, souhlasím s evaoslik – are a must nebo are a must-have. More ways of expressing this “nesmí chybět” idea idiomatically:

• Needless to say, there are a few vegetable beds too.
• It goes without saying that there are a few vegetable beds too.
• Of course there have to be a few vegetable beds too.
• Of course, what self-respecting garden doesn't have a few vegetable beds?
• And of course any garden worth its salt has (to have) a few vegetable beds.
• And what kind of (a) garden would it be without a few vegetable beds?
• And of course who can/could imagine a garden without a few vegetable beds?

The problem (to the English ear) with “missing” is that the subject of chybět is missing, but it shoudn't be. In most contexts in Czech, whatever “nesmí chybět” isn't actually missing/absen­t/lacking, it's there (because it has to be).
