noun - the main character in the fairy tale about a young girl who lives with her mother in law and two evil step sisters and has to work for them untill a fairy godmother helps her get to the Prince's dance where the prince notices her and they get married and they live happily ever after

noun - a strip or piece of material (usually rubber or plastic) that is put on something to prevent water, air or dirt to get in or out

verb - to get a person or animal into a place or situation from which it is difficult to escape for them, or which is very uncomfortable for them

 

DMV - úřad pro motorová vozidla (v USA)

noun - short for Department of Motor Vehicles, a government office in the US where you can get a driver’s license, register a car, and handle other driving-related services

trophy - trofej

noun - something you get for a victory, e.g. a golden cup etc; a stuffed head of an animal that you show to other people to prove your hunting skills

quay - nábřeží, přístaviště

noun - a long platform along the bank of a river etc. (usually built of stone) that boats can be tied to and passengers or goods can get on and off

 

pull-up - shyb (s přehmatem)

noun - a physical exercise in which you are suspended holding onto a fixed bar (with your hands slightly apart and your palms facing away from you) and then you pull yourself up until the bar touches your chest and lower yourself down again

toilet - záchod, záchodová mísa, klozet

noun - a large flushable bowl with a seat on it that you can use to get rid of the waste material in your body, a small room with such a bowl in it

 

Quaffle - camrál

noun - (Harry Potter) one of the balls that is used in the game of Quidditch, the shooters have to get it through one of the hoops on the opponent's side of the pitch

golf - golf

noun - a game in which you have to get a small ball into a hole by hitting it with a special club, the ball has to travel across a large course with grass, sand and water on it

 

musical chairs - škatulata hejbejte se

noun - a game played by children at parties etc. There are chairs (the number of players minus one) and the players are walking or dancing around the chairs. When the music suddenly stops, they have to sit down. The person who doesn't find a chair is out. One chair is taken away and the music continues. This is repeated until there is only one player left

 

low tide - odliv, vrchol odlivu, nejnižší hladina odlivu

noun - the time when the sea is at its lowest level and the water has moved far back from the shore

 

high tide - příliv, vrchol přílivu, nejvyšší hladina přílivu

noun - the time when the sea reaches its highest level and comes furthest up the shore
