Measure your vocabulary

Hey guys, I just came across a website where you can estimate the size of your vocabulary. The whole test takes about 5 minutes and seems to be quite accurate.

I think it would be great to find out this way what vocabulary size matches which english level. So, after taking the test, please share the result as well as your level of english.

To start with, I'm C1-C2, took the test twice and got vocabulary estimates of 11800 and 14,200 words, respectively..

The same has already been discussed here: http://www.helpforenglish.cz/…lovni-zasoba.

Oh sorry about the same link, Lucka was faster :) didn't refresh the page quick enough.

Sorry, got confused, different post :D

Researchers suggest that knowing a minimum vocabulary of 3,000 words is required to understand a high percentage of words on an average page of a text. This represents a target for the lower-intermediate learning level. Hu and Nation (1992) found that a vocabulary of 5,000 words was needed to read short, unsimplified novels for pleasure, while Hazenberg and Hulstijn (1996) found that twice as many words were needed to read first-year university materials.
