I have chosen the article on page 48. It's called Queen of Blood and it is about a film named Mary, Queen of Scots. In February that film hit czech cinemas, but not everyone like it. Mary Stuart lived between 1542 and 1587. She became queen of Scotland after her father died. At that time she was 6 years old. At the age of 5 she was sent to live in France, so there were temporary rulers on the Scottish throne throughout her childhood. When she was 15 years old she married King Francis II. of France. One year later he died and she returned to Scotland to take her place as queen. Not everybody was happy about it, because she was Catholic and Scotland had became Protestant. Protestants were afraid to restore power to the Catholics. Mary had also tried to claim the throne of England but she failed. When Mary returned to Scotland the rivalry between her and her cousin english queen Elizabeth I. started. In 1565 Mary married her cousin Lord Darnely. It wasn't a happy marriage because Mary fell in love with her secretary David Rizzio. However, Lord Darnely was jealous and he arranged for Rizzaro to be murdered. The next year Darnely's house was blown up and his body was found in the garden. Earl of Bothwell was the main suspect, but he was Mary's friend. She even married him three months later. The people of Scotland didn't like that, so Mary was removed from the throne. Mary escaped to England and she wanted to get help from Elizabeth. However, Elizabeth didn't help her and she imprisoned her for 18 years. Then Mary was found guilty of treason and was beheaded on 8th February 1587. The film isn't entirely true. For example Mary and Elizabeth meet once in the film but they never met in reality. And now I'll tell you something about the actresses. Mary is played by an Irish actress Saoirse Ronan. Although she's 24 she's already been nominated for an Oscar three times. Elizabeth is played by Margot Robbie. She is 28 years old and she is from Australia. In 2017 she was nominated for an Oscar for her role in film I, Tonya.
