For the first five years after the creation of Czechoslovakia, Helenin (as well as Handlovy Dvory) had been called and referred to as Helenov. First in 1932, a commission for determination of local official names decided that Helenov, a growing town with strong Czech national awareness, is going to carry the name Helenin. Even though the municipal council voted against renaming of the town, one year later, the new name was accepted.
