Skrizeni cesty

Ahoj. Nevite, zda existuje nejaky jednoslovny cesky ekvivalent pro left/right hook, ktery se v anglictine pouziva v dopravni situaci kdy nekdo nekomu “strihne” cestu napr. pri odbocovani? Predem moc diky.

I've never heard left/right hook used like that – must be British English  – for me the phrase relates to boxing – “he threw a left/right hook”.

If someone does what you say when driving, I call that “cutting s.o. off” – Look at that jerk – he just cut me off! (He turned right in front of me.)

I think I use the phrase: hodit, udělat myšku. But not sure if it is exactly what you meant.

Yeah, it's probably British English then. And “to cut someone off” seems to be American English according to the Longman Dictionary. Thank you for your response.

Mysku chapu jako umyslny riskantni manevr, kdy nekdo nekoho predjede a sotva se pred nej zaradi, tak prudce brzdi, napr. za ucelem odbocovani nebo kvuli situaci pred nim. Kdezto “left hook” chapu jako manevr, ktery je proveden casto i neumyslne, z nedbalosti a hlavne bez brzdeni a jde tam hlavne o to skrizeni cesty. Takze to mi nepripada jako vhodny ekvivalent. Ale mozna to chapu spatne… Kazdopadne dekuju za odpoved.

Ta myška je právě to kolikrát neúmyslné vjetí do jízdné dráhy, ale vhodnost je na vás. Možná existuje lepší výraz…ale tak to používám já.

Being English I can say I've never heard anyone say left/right hook in that context, we'd also say he cut me off or cut me up. Left and right hooks are as Americanka said are boxing terms.

Maybe it's only associated with cyclists then, but the links above clearly show this expression is being used.

Definitely looks like a cycling thing in that case. But the OP didn't make it clear whether he's talking about bikes or cars…
