The mistake was in pump on petrol.There was the smell of petrol in the car for whole journey,so I had the headache.Once,the car was doing the same movements on the road home and dad thought,that the car will stop again.

Chyba byla v čerpadle na benzín.V autě byl celou cestu smrad benzinu,takže mě bolela hlava.Jednou,auto dělalo stejné pohyby po cestě domůa tata si myslel,že se auto znova zastaví

O všech těch věcech jsem v předešlim textu psal.

1. The mistake was in the pump for petrol
2. There was a smell… for the whole journey, which gave me a headache
3. The car did… that the car would stop again

Podle mě by šla i první věta přeložit jako: The mistake was caused by a petrol pump.

Pozor na mistake v této souvislosti:

Mistake

1. [countable] something that has been done in the wrong way, or an opinion or statement that is incorrect. O to tady nejde. 
2. [countable] something you do that is not sensible or has a bad result (Longman). O to tady nejde. 

Fault

• There was a problem/fault with the petrol pump
• The petrol pump wasn't working properly
