To je jako v té knížce “How to Be an Alien” (George Mikes): "People on the Continent either tell you the truth or lie; in England they hardly ever lie, but they would not dream of telling you the truth.“ ?

Ahoj/Dobrý den,

předpokládám tedy, že tato věta z filmu Frankenstein (2025) je „špatně“ a určitý člen by před „truth“ měl být:

  • I had a vision, an idea took shape in my mind: inevitable, unavoidable, until it became truth.

All three forms (definite article, indefinite article, zero article) are possible in this phrase.

  • an idea took shape in my mind: inevitable, unavoidable, until it became truth. („Truth“ is understood here as an abstract noun.)
  • an idea took shape in my mind: inevitable, unavoidable, until it became the truth. (The specific/definite „truth“ that the speaker has in mind or goes on to explain, or the „only one“ truth)
  • an idea took shape in my mind: inevitable, unavoidable, until it became a truth. (One truth, one kind of truth, one of the many truths)
