nations zůstavá v množném čísle díky tomu, že je to součást názvu?

Čili by bylo třeba United states people?

You can't really say „United States people“…it sounds really strange (at least to me).

But you can certainly say „people of the United States“. But you'd be more likely to hear „United States citizens“ or „citizens of the United States“. We like to be called citizens 

If you mean people who live there, who may or may not be legal citizens, you can say „residents of the United States“ or „United States residents“.

But as to your original question, which I now understand properly – yes, things like United Nations and United States stay plural since those are their proper names.

Zvláště, co jsem se dočetla:
Na rozdíl od češtiny se tato podstatná jména (information, knowledge, news) a názvy užívají pouze v singuláru:
The United States IS powerful – Spojené státy jsou mocné.

The United Nations WAS founded in 1945 – Spojené národy byly založeny v roce 1945.

A po people následuje vždy sloveso v plurálu:
People don´t know much about him. – Lidi o něm mnoho nevědí.

The American people have made their choice – Americký národ si zvolil.

To se asi nějak zdůvodnit nedá, jen zapamatovat

lidově řečeno jste trošku mimo mísu řešili jsme něco jinýho

@jarmi1 – The United Nations is an organization whose name just happens to include a plural noun. It's a singular thing, though. A singular organization called the United Nations.

BUT – the American people have made their choice – this means that they have individually chosen, not as a group making one choice – so people=plural. It's a very nitpicky thing. 

I just stumbled upon one language construction that baffles me.

You know, it's app of quotes, then it should be quote app, shouldn't it?
So the question is why is that quotes app and not quote app?
