Lingea uvádí, že “up” je podél či po směru (řeky, cesty). To mi implikuje po proudu.
Oxford uvádí: up – To a higher part of (a river or stream), away from the sea. Tam bych řekl proti proudu.
V Macmillan: up adjective moving along a river in the opposite direction that the water is flowing, or at a point along it in this direction
Z toho mi vyplývá, že up ve spojitosti s řekou by mělo být, což se zdá logické, proti proudu. U cesty předpokládám ale, že to tak není? up the path tedy bude spíše dál ve směru? Stejně jako they live up the street?
